Mission
The mission of Mathematical Sciences is to produce graduates who will: Develop mathematical ability and knowledge of the depth and breadth of mathematics. Communicate about mathematics and by utilizing mathematics. Use technology to support problem solving and promote understanding. Apply the mathematical sciences, including statistics, in other academic disciplines.
The program offers a subject major in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and minors in Mathematics, Applied Statistics and Mathematics Education (K-8). The Mathematics Education option satisfies the requirements for a Field Endorsement in 6-12 Mathematics. There is also a middle level education academic area in Mathematics (5-9). A student must complete the core requirements and an option, in addition to general studies requirements, and a major or minor in another area. Mathematics Education students must complete Professional Education requirements in place of a major or minor in another area.
The complete Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program is offered online, as well as the traditional classroom setting. Please visit Student Opportunities for more information about online learning. The program also offers graduate degrees in mathematics education and resources designed to renew and update qualifications online.
Many opportunities are available for students. We are host to the Nebraska Gamma Chapter of Kappu Mu Epsilon, a mathematics honor society.
